Nigeria: Unilever Excites Kids On Children's Day

Unilever Nigeria Plc, makers of Blue band, in conjunction with Children of Africa, gave the kids every reason to smile as it staged the 16th annual Children of Africa Children's Day event in different locations across the country. The funfair was held simultaneously in

Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Lagos and Ibadan. The theme for this year event tagged "Every Child Has Got Potential," gave the children the opportunity to engage in different activities, which would linger in their memories for a long time.

At the different locations, and with thousands of school children in attendance, the event had lot of fun-filled activities to the delight of the kids. Some of the activities include competitions among pupils and schools such as dance/drama choreography, quiz and spelling bees. The winners of the Blue Band essay competition were rewarded with prizes such as outdoor plastic play slide, mobile air conditioner; 24"flat screen television, water dispenser as well as lots of Blue Band products like branded T-shirts, bags and pens.

Those who emerged winners at the competitions at the various locations nationwide include Zitife Otegbulu, Oyeniyi Roseline, Teeyor Bariyima, and Onwuagana Ifunanya. Zitife Otegbulu came first in the quiz competition held at the Lagos centre while Teeyor Bariyima came first in the essay competition at the Port Harcourt centre. Oyeniyi Roseline led the quiz category at the Lagos centre just as Onwuagana Ifunanya emerged top in the essay competition at the Enugu centre.

The Children's Day fair was a good opportunity for educative talks as principal consultant for the centre for sex education and family life, Mr. Praise Fowowe, was on ground to teach the kids how to identify any form of sexual abuse, and urged them to report any incidents to their parents and teachers.

The Category Manager, Tea and Spreads, Miss Vivian Ihaza, stated that Unilever has successfully partnered with Children of Africa over the years on many initiatives including the annual Children's Day celebrations.

According to her, the company believes strongly in doing well by doing good hence Blue Band Margarine, which is the tasty and nutritious addition to bread and other meals. She added that the brand has been designed to complement the efforts of mothers in the continued quest to provide nutritious meals for their families.
