Kenya: Rep Roots for Residents' Jobs
By Raphael Mwadime
THE Taita Taveta assembly member has accused China City Construction Company of giving jobs to people from outside the county. The company has been awarded a Sh10.5 billion tender by the African Development Bank to tarmack Mwatate-Taveta road.
County Assembly Committee for Roads and Infrastructure chairman Godwin Kilele wants residents to be given priority. Speaking during a visit to the company offices in Taveta on Thursday, he said it is illegal to give jobs to people from outside the county if there are qualified residents who can do the job. The company's manager, Rose Ndururi denied the claims.
