Egypt: FM Meets Chinese Counterpart

Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy urged China to play a more effective role in negotiations among Nile-basin countries to settle pending files, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Atti said Thursday.

Fahmy made the remarks during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the sixth ministerial session of the Sino-Arab Cooperation Forum.

Talks tackled the Syrian crisis as well as the developments in east and southeastern Asia.

The Chinese minister expressed his country's congratulations to President-elect Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for his sweeping victory in the presidential polls.

He added that the Chinese industry minister will attend Sisi's inauguration ceremony as an envoy of the Chinese president.
