Uganda: City As Art At Space At Laba!

This year's theme of the annual Laba! Art festival; 'The City is our Space', is designed to engage artists in producing art that relates to people in two specific locations, on two difference days and with two different approaches. Already about forty artists have been selected to create art to meet these requirements. These include photographers, painters, sculptors, dancers, poets, fashion designers and street comedians. The venues to work in are Kisementi Parking lot, Kamwokya, and Nsambya.

The two spaces will give the artists an opportunity to work with different types of audiences while creating art that appeals to their taste. "The audience in Kisementi is different from that in Nsambya. Artists have an opportunity to choose which audience they prefer to working with depending on the concept of their projects," says Andrew Ludigo, advisory member to the Laba! Committee.
