Nigeria: Second Niger Bridge - Group Demands Use of Igbo Engineers

The apex Igbo socio-cultural youth organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has demanded the use of indigenous engineers of Igbo extraction in the ongoing construction of the second Niger Bridge project.

After participation in the stakeholders meeting organized by the consultant in charge of the project, the group's National Publicity Secretary, Igboayaka O Igboayaka, explained that the demand is in consonant with the principle and policy of companies' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Igboayaka pointed out that part of the problems that precipitated the human capital flight on Igbo land is the absence of federal projects and companies hence the description of such a scenario by the OYC as an industrial discrimination against the Igbo race and which has consequently compelled able bodied Igbo youths to migrate outside the shores of Igbo land in search of greener pastures.
