Nigeria: Wanted! a National Cancer Prevention Policy

The announcement of the death of Prof. Dora Akunyili, former Nigerian Information Minister and immediate past Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) late last week put to rest the speculations about the nature of illness she had suffered from for years. She was confirmed to have struggled with cancer till death took her away.

In the tradition of this column, I am obliged to put on the readers' purview a discussion on the subject and more importantly on this occasion to also stress the need for the government to institute a workable and rigorous policy on cancer enlightenment and prevention in Nigeria.
