Kenya: Hire Locals, MP to Contractors

Saboti MP David Wekesa has asked the contractors who qualify for tenders to hire locals in the work. Speaking in Kitale today, Wekesa complained that most locals are not awarded contracts.

He said even after they are denied contracts, the contractors go on again denying the locals casual jobs during the repairing of roads and other jobs that required non-skilled individuals to operate.

"It is good to economically empower our people especially the youth, if they are left out then it means the poverty will continue biting our people" he said.

Wekesa asked the youth in the area to register their companies to enable them qualify for tenders. He urged youth and women to form groups or join the existing groups to help them access the Uwezo funds.

He said Saboti constituency has received sh.18 million Uwezo funds.
