Nigeria: Kano HIV/Aids Rate Drops to 1.3 Percent

Kano — Prevalence rate for HIV/AIDS in Kano State has dropped from 2.8 per cent to 1.3 per cent, according to a survey conducted by the National AIDS and Reproductive Health Survey Plus (NARHS-Plus), an organization saddled with the respon-sibility of monitoring the disease.

Director General, Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr. Sa'adatu Saidu Bala, disclosed this at the quarterly review meeting of Strengthening Integ-rated Delivery of HIV/AIDS Services in the state, a project jointly run by state Ministry of Health and Family Health International (FHI360)

She said with the current prevalence status, Kano is no longer an emergency state as far as HIV/AIDS is concerned and that he drop was achieved due to the concerted efforts of the government and partners.
