Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi refusal to accede to almost 800 health workers and experts' call to declare drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) a public health emergency at the South African TB Conference this week could have a devastating effect on our public health sector.
The Minister's denialism and failure to declare this emergency could jeopardise the lives of thousands of South Africans and put undue strain on our clinics and hospitals.
