15 June 2014

Abuja — Still basking in the euphoria of the impressive outing at the recent African Youth Games in Botswana, the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) has said it would shift its focus on the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and not the 31st Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Anita Uwadia was the poster girl in Gaborone, where she won a gold medal in the girls' single and was prominent as Nigeria added a silver medal in the team event to finish on a high in the golf event. The Director of Youth and Women Golf Development at NGF, Emmy Ekong who summed up the mood, said the federation will now set a target of 2020 as Rio is no longer feasible.
