For some communities in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, evacuation of agricultural produce from farm and inter village mobility is no more a problem as all the access roads covering 10 km have been constructed by an Abuja based businessman, Mr. Higgins Oko Ohiero.
The roads constructed include two major farm roads and three intra village roads at Oba in O,oh Ward; one intra village road in Ore-Olachor in Okpoma Ward and a-2km road at Ipuole Okuku and Abachor Okuku Road complete with well paved drains to channel water.
Ohiero in an interview, told THISDAY that the gesture was his own contribution to the development of Yala Local Government Area as development should not be left to government alone considering the many responsibilities of government, adding that he was impressed with the development agenda of the chairman of Yala, Mr. Mike Usibe and wanted to complement his efforts at transforming Yala.
He said since government alone cannot bring development to the people, he has decided to assist in constructing some major roads ahead of the rainy season, noting that since Usibe was conscious of development, well to do sons and daughters of Yala should do their bits to facilitate development in the Local Government.
"The only way I can help my community is by coming closer to the council chairman so that together, we can give a face-lift to the communities. I have confidence in the ability of the chairman to take development to the rural areas at a faster pace. I therefore call on all well meaning sons and daughters of Yala in the state to get closer to their council chairman and identify any project of their choice that will touch the lives of their people positively", he said.
