Malawi: First Couple Ties the Knot

Blantyre — The State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Saturday officially wedded a long time friend Madame Getrude Hendrina Maseko at St Michael and all Angels Church in Blantyre.

Speaking words of marriage during the ceremony, Reverend Michael Kadawati said marriage is a very sacred institution and a foundation of a nation.

"Entering marriage is a very important step in one's life because from the marriage one gets companionship and oneness from the partner as by God's design," said reverend Kadawati.

Preaching during the ceremony, reverend Rodney Bona said marriage is a life time commitment that needs to be taken after thorough thought adding the nation believes the Head of State has made the decision to enter into holy matrimony with virtues woman of his choice.

The country now has a First Lady in the name of Getrude Hendrina Mutharika, a nurse by profession and former legislator for Balaka North who made it to the August House on DPP's ticket.

Prominent figures available at the officiating ceremony include, Vice Presided Saulosi Chilima, Chief Secretary to Government Hawa Ndilowe, Formers first lady Madame Callista Mutharika Leader of Opposition and Malawi Congress Party President Dr Lazerous Chakwera, Friday Jumbe of the New Labour Party, Dean of the Diplomatic Corp , Madame Thandiwe Dumbushena, Petra Party President Kamuzu Chibambo among others.

The cerebration continues with a private reception held at the Mutharika's family home in Ndata Thyolo District.
