Kenya: Cord Postpones Planned Rallies in Kisii, Nakuru

Kenyan opposition party Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) on Thursday (June 19th) postponed two political rallies scheduled at the weekend in Kisii and Nakuru, Kenya's Capital FM reported.

The rally planned for Kisii on Friday was postponed until July 4th after requests from local leaders who said they needed time to prepare for by-elections on Monday.

"A rally scheduled for Nakuru on Sunday has also been cancelled in honour of the victims of the terror attacks in Mpeketoni, Lamu County," said Dennis Onyango, personal assistant to CORD leader Raila Odinga. "Instead of the rally, CORD is asking its supporters and Kenyans in general wherever they are to dedicate Sunday, June 22, 2014, to prayers for peace, security and unity in the country."

However, other rallies, including one planned for Saturday in Kakamega, are due to go ahead as planned ahead of the so-called "Saba Saba" rally in Nairobi on July 7th, according to Kenya's Daily Nation.
