Kenya: Bomet MCAs Protest Slash in Budget

A meeting between Bomet MCAs and the executives to discuss budgetary proporsals turned into a dissaray following disagreements.

MCAs at the meeting, held at the county assembly and attended by Governor Isaac Rutto was meant to explain details of the budget.

Finance executive David Cheruiyot was shouted down from giving a power point presentation of the budget. MCAs argued that they had passed a 'genuine' budget hence it made no sense for the executive to duplicate their work.

Rutto's efforts to calm down the MCAs fell on deaf ears . Budget and Appropriation Committee vice chairman Benard Ngeno said the house was ambushed with a "strange" budget.

Ngeno said the executive was trying to 'push the assembly to the wall' by reducing their initial allocation of Sh372 million to Sh265 million in the 2014-2015 budget.
