Nigeria: Ogun Housing Corporation Gets Acolades for Engaging Professionals

The State Housing Corporation has been commended for utilizing professionals in the building sector in the delivery of affordable houses to the masses.

The State Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Builder Sikiru Eyinfunjowo, gave the commendation in Abeokuta while leading other members of the Institute on a courtesy call on the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Housing Development and General Manager of the State Housing Corporation, Mrs. Jumoke Akinwunmi.

Eyinfunjowo noted that there were touches of professionalism in all the construction projects being carried out by the Corporation in the various estates, noting that this was an indication that Government was not compromising quality in all construction works.

He said that the Institute was always ready to support the State Government in its housing drive, emphasizing that the engagement of building professionals would always result in quality service delivery.

Eyinfunjowo called for more synergy between the Corporation and the Institute. According to him, "when we are talking of building, builders must be involved, we want expansion in the Corporation's building department through employment of more builders".

Responding, Akinwunmi, said that the corporation had always involved professionals like Surveyors, Town planners, Quantity Surveyors, Builders and other relevant professionals in the housing sector in its housing delivery.

Akinwunmi said that the maintenance of the Plainfields Estate would be handled by the Estate Residence Association and there would be documentation of rules and regulations which would be binding on all residents.

She called for more education and re-education amongst professionals, urging them to put in place checks and recertification to checkmate activities of quacks.

The Special Adviser enjoined the Institute to create a platform with other professional bodies to come together and rub minds to further develop the sector; saying that the "cost of constant engagement of minds ensure the end users getting value for their money".

She assured that her Corporation would always provide necessary infrastructure in all its estates, particularly drainages for free flow of water; appreciating the institute for their support, she expressed satisfaction on women involvement in the building sector.
