Kenya: Laikipia MCAs Query Pay for 825 'Ghost Workers'

Laikipia MCAs have protested the deduction of Sh137 million from the county government.

The money was used to pay 825 staff allegedly devolved to the county government between July and December last year.

"According to our investigation, there is no such number of employees seconded to this county by the Ministry of Devolution and Planning," said Majority leader Ephraim Kamakia at the assembly yesterday .

Ministry of Health allegedly received 570 staff, 106 in Agriculture, 71 in the Livestock ministry and 28 in the Ministry of Public Works.

Thingithu ward MCA Michael Kinyua and nominated MCA Nyambura Maitai said the money could have been paid to ghost workers.

The House resolved that the matter be referred to the Senate for intervention under Standing Order number 42(2) to have the money refunded.
