Equatorial Guinea Booted Out of AFCON 2015

Malabo — THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified Equatorial Guinea from the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations for fielding An ineligible player.

By using a Cameroonian international, Thierry Fidieu Tazemeta, the Equatorial Guinea violated international football rules.

The disqualification followed complaint by the Mauritania Football Federation.

CAF said it reached its decision based on the first round play off fixture between the two countries on May 17.

The CAF Committee decided that the player under review had a change of association but the Equatorial Guinea federation did not provide evidence that the player was eligible to represent the team.

The association did not comply with FIFA Statutes regarding such change of association.

The Mauritanian national team will now proceed to engage Uganda in the final playoff round.
