Nigeria: Spectre of Impeachment in Rivers

Port Harcourt — On Thursday, June 19, Rivers State was thrown into a state of fear and confusion. This was sequel to the alarm raised by the state government that six lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Assembly were planning impeachment process on Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The lawmakers led by Hon Evans Bapakaye Bipi of Ogu/Bolo state constituency actually had a meeting at the Krisdera Hotel in Omoku before relocating to yet another venue in Port Harcourt, the state capital. Krisdera Hotel is owned by Prince Felix Obuah, Rivers State chairman of the PDP and a close associate of the Supervising Minister for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike.
