Tunisia: Elections - 70 Thousand Newly Registered Voters, No Extension of Registration Deadlines - Sarsar

Tunis, — Some 70,000 Tunisians have registered on the voters list until July 4, President of the Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (ISIE) Chafik Sarsar told the press on Saturday.

Sarsar, who considered this figure "too low," ruled out the possibility of an extension of the deadlines for the registration of new voters, set from June 23 to July 22, 2014.

The independent elections commission has taken additional steps to improve the performance of its mobile teams, said Sarsar, calling on the media and the civil society to contribute to raising citizens' awareness about the need to register on the voters list.
