Nigeria: Women Shut Shell Gas Plant Over Power Outage

Women in Obunagha community in Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State who shut down the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Gbarain-Ubie gas plant during a protest yesterday said the action was to draw attention to the perennial power outage in the community.

Briefing newsmen on the protest, a community women leader, Madam Pereware Dadiowei, said they had been without electricity for one month despite several entreaties to SPDC to on the problem.
