Mozambique: Muchanga Detention Likely to Be Formalised On Wednesday

Maputo — A Maputo judge is expected to decide on Wednesday whether Antonio Muchanga, spokesperson for Afonso Dhlakama, leader of Mozambique's former rebel movement Renamo, should remain in preventive detention.

Muchanga is a member of the Council of State, an advisory body to President Armando Guebuza, and as such normally enjoys immunity from prosecution. But the Attorney-General's Office sent a request to the Council of State for the lifting of Muchanga's immunity.
