Liberia: Nimba Caucus Walk Out of Session, 'Riot Not Highlighted'

Monrovia — Just a day after House Speaker Alex Tyler claimed that he was not informed on the arrest and maltreatment of Rep. Prince Tokpah by officers of the Liberian National Police in the Nimba violence, the county's legislative caucus at the level of the House of representatives walked out of the session on Thursday in protest that the issue was not placed on the working agenda of the day.

Members of the caucus present at the news conference on Thursday constitute 90 percent of the membership of the legislature with 9 of the 11 members being part of the lower House. The lawmakers from Nimba County have vowed not to return to session until the issue is given an attention by the plenary of the House of Representatives.
