Ghana: Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways Inspects Praso Bridge

Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, has disclosed that the government is putting up measures to construct a new bridge over the Pra River at Twifo Praso in the Central Region.

He disclosed this when he paid a familiarization visit to inspect the bridge on the Pra river and other feeder roads in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District.

Mr Adjei-Mensah speaking to the drivers and pedestrians said a new bridge would be constructed very soon since the old one was for the Ghana Railway Authority. He said a new road would be constructed from Dunkwa through Praso to Abura. It was during that time he noted that a new bridge would be constructed on the river. He disclosed that all documentations on the project were ready and action would be taken very soon.

Mr Owusu Sekyere Antwi, Director of Bridges at Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) said the maintenance of the bridge would have been done a long time ago if it was not for the fact that the GHA had to liaise with Ghana Railways Authority, but assured the citizens that the documentations needed had been done and the budget had been forwarded to the Minister for Roads and Highways for approval. He promised that the bridge would be fixed very soon.

Mr Samuel Atto-Amoah, Member of Parliament for the area thanked the Deputy Minister and his entourage made up of Mr Isaac Adjei- Mensah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Owusu- Sekyere Antwi, Director of Bridges, Francis Degbe, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mawutor Kofi Ketetsyor the Regional Director of Urban Roads and Mr Kwasi Asamoah Duah the Regional Director of Feeder Roads for the visit.

He promised on behalf of the drivers not to cause any damage to the bridge when the necessary maintenance was carried out. He took the opportunity to advice the drivers to co-operate with the District Assembly in order to maintain the bridge.

Mr Atto Amoah pleaded with the Minister to go by his words and work on the bridge and the poor roads in the district generally.

The visit ended with the Deputy Minister inspecting some roads in the district, Praso- Bempong Agya and the campus of Nursing and Midwifery Training School

At the Nursing and Midwifery Training School the Principal, Madam Joyce Abeka Quansah pleaded with the Deputy Minister to ensure that culverts or bridges were put on the stream running through the school to facilitate accessibility.

The Deputy Minister and his entourage were taken round the District by the District Chief Executive, Mr Bossman Osei Hyiamang junior and District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Peter Nimo.
