Both ticket sales and revenues for the current National Arts Festival have exceeded those for 2013 at the midpoint, with the final weekend still to come, according to a Thursday press release from the organisers.
The number of tickets sold was about 6% more than last year, with the rand value about 12% more, said Festival CEO Tony Lankester. Roughly 200 performances have sold out, including the ballet A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the revival of Ubu and the Truth Commission, as well as numerous performances on the Fringe. Several performances by visiting international artists have wholly or nearly sold out, including Australian beatboxers Jamie MacDowell and Tom Thum, and Kafka and Son, a hit imported from the 2013 Prague Fringe.
