Kenya: Nakumatt Opens New Branch in Lunga Lunga

Nairobi — Regional retailer, Nakumatt Holdings, has opened a fully-fledged convenience store in the heart of Nairobi's industrial area to push its footprint to 47 branches across East Africa.

The new branch, located along Lunga Lunga road, in Industrial area, will also be aptly known as "Nakumatt Lunga Lunga" and will provide a convenient shopping spot for shoppers in Donholm, Hazina Estate, Plainsview, Golden Gate, Banque Villa, Jogoo Road, Diamond Park estates and its environs.

Speaking at the opening of the 11,000 square feet store located at the new Lunga Lunga Square, Nakumatt Holdings Regional Strategy and Operations Director Thiagarajan Ramamurthy said the opening of the convenience store at a cost of Sh 75 million is geared at deepening the retailer's footprint in Nairobi.

Nakumatt, which operates on a leasing model for its locations intends to open other stores in Nairobi, at Shujaa Mall near Donholm, NextGen Mall along Mombasa road and Sky Mall near Highridge in the coming months.

"Given the growing pace of middle and upper residential properties across Nairobi County, our growth projections confirm that we shall need to deepen our presesence in Nairobi by more than ten new branches," Ramamurthy said.

Alongside conventional supermarket products and services, shoppers at the new Nakumatt Lunga Lunga, will also enjoy the provision of an in store bakery, a fresh fruit and vegetable section and a Java Coffee House outlet.

Corporate customers will also enjoy service provision at the new store where they can open a corporate account for their retail consumables needs.

With running operations in 12 Counties already, Nakumatt is currently engaging a number of property developers across the country to guarantee a steady supply of suitable malls in Machakos, Nyeri, Kajiado, Garissa, Embu, Naivasha, Narok, Busia and Homabay.

In Tanzania, Nakumatt will also be opening the doors to three recently acquired and strategically located retail stores in Dar Es Salaam and Arusha.

The opening of the three stores formerly operated by Shoprite will effectively push Nakumatt's branch network to 50 stores across East Africa.
