South Sudan: President Calls for Renewal of Peace Talks

Juba — South Sudan's President Salva Kiir on Wednesday July 9, called on rebels to resume peace talks in order to resolve the over six month long conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced over a million people.

"I still renew my call upon him [Riek Machar] to accept the logic of peaceful resolution to the conflict so that we resolve this issue," President Kiir said in the capital Juba during a ceremony marking the 3rd anniversary of independence. "Put down your guns and come home."
