Gambia: Babylon Alkalo's Brother Opens Defense

Modou Lamin Jassey, a brother to the alkalo of Babylon, on Tuesday opened his defense before Magistrate N Samateh of the Brikama Magistrates' Court.

Jassey in his testimony recalled that in May 2011, he was in Babylon working in the compound of the first accused person Sajor Badjie, when the police came to Babylon, but did not meet him. He said the police left a message that he (Jassey) and his people should go and answer at the Yundum Police Station, adding that when he reported at the said station together with his people, the station officer told them that they were late, because those who lodged complaints against them have already left. The second defence witness (DW2) said the station officer had informed them that he wanted to discuss the land in question, noting that the officer asked if Badjie, the first accused has documents to the land in dispute, but he (Jassey) said Badjie then produced his document and showed it to the officer.
