Tanzania: Public Expenditure Reforms Underway

Dodoma — As part of government commitment to ongoing reforms, Tanzania is expected to carry out a Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) exercise for Local Government Authorities.

The Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Ms Hawa Ghasia, said this recently, appealing to all Regions and Councils to fully engage into and participate in the PEFA exercise which is expected to be undertaken soon.

She noted that the PEFA study will enable identification of Public Finance Management (PFM) challenges and strengths in Local Government Authorities.

The outcomes of the exercise will enable Government and Development partners to plan on the management of Public Finance Management at the Local Government level.

She noted that the exercise would involve twelve district councils which have been sampled for the assessment compared to previous assessments in 2005 and 2009 at the Central level and in 2006 at the Sub-national level which were carried out in seven local government authorities.
