Somalia: Car Laden With Explosives Captured in Lower Shabelle

The Governor of Lower Shabelle, Abdikadir Nur Sidi, revealed that his forces have detained and arrested an Al-Shabaab insurgent whom he alleges wanted to commit a suicide bombing in Mogadishu.

Mr. Sidi explained that the vehicle being used by the insurgent was filled with IED bombs and other explosive devices. The vehicle was said to have left Barawe and headed to Mogadishu, but captured by Somali National Army and AMISOM troops.

The Governor added that that the regional administration are also investigating the car explosion in Dannow which blasted by itself, under the administration of a remote control device. Mr. Sidi claimed that if his troops had not detained the suspect, he would have caused a deadly explosion in Mogadishu.

Recently, the Somali government forces in Mogadishu foiled an attack by capturing a vehicle filled with explosives and disarming the devices in order to prevent explosions.
