Liberia: Plans to Upgrade, Expand Harper Port Concluded

Golden Veroleum Liberia Oil Palm Company operating in Sinoe and Grand Kru counties has concluded plans to rehabilitate and expand the Port of Harper in Maryland County.

National Port Authority (NPA) Managing Director Matilda Parker said the plan, which has been approved by Government, is intended to elevate the port to international standard and also enable it accommodate larger vessels.

Disclosing this recently when she appeared on the UNMIL radio program "Civil Affairs Hour," Parker said the project was part of a 25-year Master Plan designed by the NPA management to improve the country's three major ports and bring them to international level.

Under the plan, the NPA Managing Director outlined several measures geared towards the smooth functioning of the Ports of Monrovia, Buchannan and Greenville.

The plan includes construction of container parks, provision of security at these parks and building the capacity of employees through training.
