East Africa: European Union Extends Mandate for Anti-Piracy Efforts in Horn of Africa

The Council of the European Union on Tuesday (July 22nd) extended the mandate of EUCAP Nestor, its maritime capacity building initiative in the Horn of Africa, until December 2016.

EUCAP Nestor provides advice, mentoring and training to maritime forces in Djibouti, Somalia, the Seychelles and through a liaison officer in Tanzania. These efforts aim to boost capacity for local coast guards, the maritime criminal justice system and coastal police "to help them fight piracy more effectively", the Council announced.
