Nigeria: A Word for the President

SIR: This note is for President Goodluck Jonathan. I am 76 years old, a senior citizen, from Delta State. Mr. President, permit me to use this modest medium to give you some advice, albeit unpalatable, but in the very utmost interest of our nation, especially after reading a very soul-searching article titled "What if, Nigeria" by one Leonard Shilgba, alias "Sad Nationalist (SAN)", in "The Guardian" of Tuesday, June 10, 2014.

By May, 2015, you would have at your young age, by the very special grace of Almighty God, been the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of her Armed Forces for six years and during the most turbulent post-civil war period. An enviable advanced democracy like Switzerland has a single five-year tenure for her Presidents. Whether anyone likes it or not, you would have performed to the very best of your ability during this very trying period.
