Uganda: NGOs Should Be Able to Shake Govt in Their Advocacy

Last week, I noted that, strictly speaking, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are not civil society organisations (CSOs).

Civil society, as organised society, brings together individuals with shared interests and collective goals, yet most NGOs in Uganda are not founded on group-vested interests. In pursuing specific group interests or wider societal aspirations, CSOs place demands on the state and check the exercise of state power.
