Kenya: Joho Appoints New Finance Executive

MOMBASA Governor Hassan Joho has appointed a new Finance executive in an acting capacity to replace former executive Walid Khalid. Yesterday, Joho released a press statement, saying Gender executive Hazel Koitaba will head the docket on an acting capacity.

The Mombasa county assembly sacked Khalid last Thursday for incompetence following the tabling of a motion by the assembly's Budget and Appropriations Committee chairman, Saad Faraj.

Khalid was accused of defying summons to appear before county committees, arrogance towards committee members and county officials, and failure to advise Mombasa governor on matters pertaining to the county budget.

The MCAs also said Khalid did not submit reports on contracts with KAPS, a company that collects parking fees on behalf of the county. He also did not submit bank statements to the county for scrutiny, according to MCAs.
