Egypt Urges Palestine, Israel to Send Negotiating Teams

Egypt called on the Palestinian authority and Israeli government to send their delegations to Cairo to negotiate issues of common interest within the Egyptian-proposed ceasefire initiative.

Israel and Hamas have begun an unconditional 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. The truce came into effect at 08:00 (05:00 GMT) on Friday.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry underlined the importance of both sides' commitment to the ceasefire truce to set the stage for the negotiations.

More than 1,450 Palestinians have died, mostly civilians, since the conflict began on July 7.
