Nigeria: Group Wants Economist As Next Abia Gov

Owerri — As the race for the successor of Gov Theodore Orji hots up in Abia State, the people of the state have been urged to go beyond politics and elect a governor with economic and business background to accelerate youth employment.

The group, Coalition of Abia Professionals, noted in a statement made available to newsmen that what the state needed most was a man with a private sector background, who can stimulate industrial reawakening with a view to creating employment for the youths.

President of the group, Kelechi Onwudinjo, said they have found such a man in the person of Alex Otti, the incumbent Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc.

He disclosed that through Otti, Diamond Bank has injected more than US$455 million to jumpstart the Alaoji Independent Power Plant as a prelude to reviving moribund industries in Aba.
