Nigeria: Unmasking Military Imposters

To the undiscerning, they could pass off as the real deal. With their military kits and accoutrements, they easily blend with the real military personnel to deceive unsuspecting members of the public. Given the security challenges facing the country, the menace of impersonators, which seems to be on the rise, has been a cause of concern for security agencies, especially the military.

In the past, the military had begun a clampdown on this group of persons, whose stock in trade is to dress in military uniform and rank, impersonating officers of the force and sometimes defrauding innocent citizens with the military regalia. Even the police are not left out of this as they had once paraded a fraudster, one Sani Muhammed, who masqueraded as a brother to the former Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar. There are countless other cases where some kit in mobile police uniforms to perpetuate acts of terror.
