Ethiopia: GERD Bonds Sold in Canada

Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin residing in Canada have reportedly bought and raised 64,000 USD bond for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

According to the Office of the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ethiopian Diasporas living in three Canadian cities raised the fund on the 3rd Anniversary of the Laying of the Foundation of GERD.

Close to 8,000 USD was also pledged. Special Envoy and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ethiopia to Canada, Birtukan Ayano thanked those who supported the project and noted the construction of the dam is progressing well.

Canadian parliament member, Peter Bread said that he had witnessed encouraging development activities during his visit to Ethiopia, adding that the completion of the dam would have vivid contribution to the growth of the country. He also said the long diplomatic relation of Ethiopia and Canada should further be consolidated in trade and investment as well.
