Ethiopia: Govt Announces Details of Salary Increment

Addis Ababa (file photo): Government makes salary increment for civil servants.

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development on Saturday announced the details of the salary increment made for civil servants.

Accordingly, the most paid government employees got 33 percent increase while the least paid got 46 percent.

The least paid employees who used to earn 420 Birr per month will now get 615 Birr while the monthly salaries of the most paid will grow from 4,430 Birr to 5,891 Birr.

The least paid pensioners who used to earn 294 Birr per month will now receive 530 Birr.

According to Sufian Ahmed, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, the adjustment considered the government's paying capacity.

The government has earmarked 10.3 billion Birr for the adjustment.
