Africa: Ahmedu Emerges New Fiba Africa Zone 3 President

Former Head of the FIBA Africa Marketing Council and President of Dodan Warriors Basketball Programme, Col Sam Ahmedu (rtd), has emerged the new president of FIBA Africa in charge of Zone 3 at the 16th Congress of FIBA Africa held in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Ahmedu, who was formerly a member of the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) and chairman of its Technical Committee emerged president of zone the former Zone Three President, Muktah Khaleh also of Nigeria, stepped down. Khaleh's gesture to step down, it was learnt, came after series of meetings initiated by the NBBF President, Tijani Umar, with Ahmedu and other top FIBA World and FIBA Africa big wigs in attendance after which Ahmedu was given the all-clear by the eight delegates. With that decided, Nigeria remains in charge of basketball programmes in the zone which includes; Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cote d' Ivoire, Liberia, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic.
