Southern Africa: CENTURY's SADC Partner, Hilma Hitula, appointed to serve as Acting CEO of the Communication Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN)

The CRAN Board, has in the interim appointed Ms Hilma Hitula as the Acting CEO. Ms Hitula has served as the Vice-Chairperson of the pioneering CRAN Board, appointed in 2010 and as the Chairperson of the CRAN Board's Legal and Technical Committee.

Ms Hitula has contributed greatly to the success of CRAN through a dedicated and determined disposition, having directed the activities of CRAN, with other Board Members, and ensured the implementation of the CRAN Vision. Ms Hitula has tendered her resigned from the CRAN Board and Legal and Technical Committee as well as from her position as Legal, Regulatory and Enforcement Advisor to the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) in the Ministry of Works and Transport in order to take up the responsibilities of Acting CEO pending the recruitment of a new CEO.

Ms Hitula is not new to the regulatory environment, having served as the Legal, Regulatory and Enforcement Advisor to the DCA for 4 years. She has until recently held the position of 4th Vice Chairperson of the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Legal Committee and served as the 4th Chairperson of the Legal Commission at the 2013 ICAO Assembly and has chaired, attended and participated in various local, regional and international High Level meetings.

An admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia, Ms Hitula comes with a wealth of legal experience having practiced law for 16 years. She held the positions of Partner and Executive Director at Century Capital Holdings, Director of Lorentz Angula Inc., Legal Advisor and Company Secretary to the GIPF, Legal Officer in the Office of the Government Attorney and Prosecutor in the Office of the Prosecutor General amongst others.

The CRAN Board, is confident that the appointment of Ms Hitula will provide assurance to its stakeholders that it's "business as usual at CRAN" and the Board has no doubt that Ms Hitula will ensure that no aspect of CRAN's business is compromised during this transition period.
