Rwanda: Three Girls Killed in Travertine Quarry Collapse

Three girls were killed on Monday in Karongi when a slope in a travertine quarry caved in. The three from Rugobagoba cell in Gashari Sector, were at the quarry to look for slabs to embellish their home for an upcoming baptism, said Emile Rukesha, the sector's executive secretary.

"We learnt of the tragedy on Monday in the evening. The witnesses that saw the girls entering the quarry, waited and didn't see them coming out. They then alerted us. The site had not been exploited for more than two years," he explained.
