Somalia: Al Shabaab Militants Attack Army Bases Near Bulo Barde

Bulo Barde — Somalia's Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants attacked army bases in the outskirts of Hiraan regional district of Bulo Barde of central Somalai late on Friday night, Garowe Online reports.

Local reports say, shortly gun-battle erupted after Somali government forces along with Djiboutian peacekeepers returned fire. Bulo Barde residents woke up to sound of gunfire.

Bulo Barde mayor Ahmed Abdi Weheliye told reporters that they repelled planned attack by Al Shabaab militiamen, adding that the allied forces killed 9 fighters.

According to witnesses, six bodies in Al Shabaab uniform were spotted in the downtown on Saturday morning.

The Somali militant group did not comment on the ambush as it pushes ahead with deadly rampage. Al Shabaab has honed guerilla warfare and terror operations by targeting military targets and soft structures, largely in Mogadishu.
