Kenya: Avocado Co-Ops to Boost Kisii Farmers

AVOCADO farmers in Kisii and Nyamira counties have been told to form a co-operative union to use it negotiate prices of their produce.

Agriculture executive Vincent Sagwe said the Sacco will cushion farmers against exploitation by middle-men.

Sagwe said his office has embarked on a drive to help farmers sell their produce to the right people.

Addressing farmers at Kisii Cultural Hall during an avocado promotion forum, Sagwe encouraged the farmers to plant high quality avocado varieties.

The forum was organised by the Agriculture ministry and the Cascade Development Organisation.
