Last week, the acting governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Umar Fintirin had his maiden broadcast to the people of the state. It was about his 10th day in office as acting governor. In the broadcast, he accused impeached Governor Murtala Nyako of stealing N82 billion of state funds.
Yes, N82 billion! Pray, how much did the state receive in the last three years? Given the zeal with which Nyako was impeached, the acting governor seems committed to doing-in Nyako's reputation and whatever is left of it. Even when he categorized the sum 'stolen' into two: statutory indebtedness (N12 Billion) and money spent on non-viable projects (N70billion), Fintirn yet chose to announce that Nyako stole N82 billion? How can the amount spent (yes, spent) on "non-viable projects", be deemed to have been stolen? Does Fintirin, a lawyer, not know the meaning of stealing? Let me make it clear: I hold no brief for Nyako. I have never met him.
