Umuahia — SINCE the death of the premier of the defunct eastern region of Nigeria Dr. Michael Okpara, who hailed from present Abia State, subsequent state governments that comprised the then eastern region have been grappling with returning agriculture to its place of pride like in the Okpara days in government.
This is being attributed to the advent of crude oil that earned the country bigger and easier revenue than agricultural produce like palm, cocoa and groundnuts, which were being produced in the east, west and north respectively and formed the major plank of the nation's GDP at the time.
