Africa: Obama's Birthday and Africa

12 August 2014
opinion

SIR: President Barack Obama is the 44th President of a functioning democracy: the United States of America. He was born on August 4, 1961. Unlike African leaders who have been very disappointing in governance, Obama can only act in advisory roles and aids but cannot interfere with African countries' government and sovereignty.

Take it or you leave it, President Obama's place in history is positively assured. Africa is bedevilled with not appreciating what they have. Obama has kept America safe from external aggression and brought America from one of the worst economic recessions to a boom period. He has stopped America's unjust war in Iraq, which he vehemently opposed as a Senator. America will come home in the fall of 2014 from Afghanistan. He has consistently told the world he would not go to war as long as he is the President of the United States unless his country is attacked.
