More than two hundred nurses from Busia County Referral Hospital boycotted work yesterday and marched to the Busia county offices over the delay of their July salary.
The striking nurses, led by Kenya Progressive Nurses Association Busia branch chair Judy Mbanda, accused the Busia county government of not paying them in line with the law.
The medics said they do not have enough medical equipment at the hospital.
They said that even after the department of health was devolved to the county governments, effective service delivery to patients is still a major bottleneck that needs to be addressed urgently.
Mbanda said they will boycott work until the county government resolves their issues.
"No amount of threat or intimidation will persuade us to resume work because we have families who depend on our earnings," she said.
