OVER 100 farmers in Matungu, Kakamega have shunned sugarcane growing for rice farming. The Matungu Rural Poverty Alleviation members said sugarcane yields were inadequate for school fees, domestic income and food security.
Marpa chairman Fredrick Omolo, called on Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma farmers to turn to rice, potatoes, cassava and millet. Omolo said Marpa is operating a Sh5 million project funded by the Western Kenya Community-Driven Development and Flood Mitigation Programme.
