Kenya: Turkana - Tullow to Construct Turkana Bridge

TULLOW Oil Company will rehabilitate the Kainuk Bridge on Turkwel River.

Residents have in the past blamed the company for the poor state of the bridge due to its heavy trucks transporting machines.

Turkana county deputy county commissioner Elijah Kodoh said the collapse of the bridge that links the county and other region might cripple Tullow operations.

He was speaking yesterday at Kainuk Turkana South.

"Tullow oil has agreed to take responsibility and rehabilitate the bridge. This will enable the passage of heavy loads to this county and even to neighboring South Sudan," Kodoh said.

In May, Governor Josphat Nanok asked the national government to rebuild the bridge.

He said its collapse would threaten the county's economic growth.
